36 Thai Government and the Japanese Chamber of Commerce, Bangkok: The Role of the Automobile Division of JCCB in the Formation of Thai Automobile Industrial Policies Sumiko Kawabe Abstract The Thai automobile industry has developed under government industrial policies and Japanese companies in Thailand instead of unskilled local companies have been contributing to promote the policies. As a consequence, the Thai government and the Japanese companies have had to cope and make adjustments to solve problems occurring between them. This study investigates the role of the Automobile Division of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce, Bangkok JCCB through its activities. The roles of the Automobile Division are: 1 adjusting the relationship between the Japanese companies and the Thai government according to the stages of the development of industrial policies. 2 setting up sub-divisions within the Automobile Division and dealing with the problems of the Thai government and the Japanese companies. 3 participating in the formation of industrial policies by invitation from the Thai government.
