3 Grammar Review( 文法の復習 )(5-10 min) Will vs. Shall(will と shall の使い分け ) In traditional English, shall is used with subjects I and we. Will is used with subjects in the second and third person, like you he, she, it and they, respectively. 英文法では本来 shall を 1 人称 (I we) の主語に will を 2 人称 (you) および 3 人称 (he she it they) の主語に用います現在では単純未来 (~だろう) を表す際にはすべての主語に will を用いる傾向があります Example: I shall go with him to New York.( 私は彼と一緒にニューヨークへ行くでしょう ) We shall eat ice cream.( 私たちはアイスクリームを食べるでしょう ) You will write your name on the paper.( 紙にあなたの名前を書いてください ) She / He will join them.( 彼女 / 彼は彼らに加わるでしょう ) They will be here soon.( 彼らはここにすぐ来るでしょう ) The dog is quiet. It will bark if angered.( その犬は大人しいです怒るとほえるでしょう ) In addition, will and shall also take special purposes. 4 Example: I will pass the exam. ( 私は試験に合格します ) Uses of shall:(shall の用法 ) 1. To express promises( 約束を表す ) Example: You shall have your pet back. ( ペットを取り戻してください ) I shall never forget my promise. (formal) ( 私は約束を決して忘れません )( フォーマルな表現 ) 2. To express obligation( 義務を表す ) Example: Parents shall (should) protect their children. ( 親は子どもを守るべきです ) 3. To express command( 命令を表す ) Example: You shall leave this room immediately. ( この部屋からすぐに出て行ってください ) 4. To express prediction.( 予想を表す ) Example: Obama shall be the next President of the USA.
