Doenecke, In danger Undaunted,, p.. American Isolationism and Appeasement in the s In spite of the end of the Pax Britanica through World War I, the United States of America revived its traditional policy of isolationism which was composed of two factors of unilateralism and avoidance of war and appeared in the form of the Neutrality Act of in order to keep the US from becoming entangled with the coming war in Europe. This article focuses on the controversial issue of how to understand the origins of the Neutrality Acts and causes of its transformation from the Act of to the Act of in terms of the Anglo- American relationship and the British appeasement policy toward the Axis powers. This concludes that the conflict of interest over the market between the US and the UK played a critical role in creating the British appeasement policy in and the change of the American neutrality acts toward its participation in World War II.
