17 Abstract The Development of Preschool Children s Views About Conflict Resolution with Peers: Diversity of Changes from Five-Year-Olds to Six-Year-Olds Yukari KUBO The purpose of this study is to explore the development of preschool children s views about conflict resolution with their peers. Thirty-one five-year-olds were interviewed on how they resolve conflicts with classmates. They were interviewed again one year later and asked the same questions. The findings were as follows; two major changes of views about conflict resolution with peers from five-year-olds to six-year-olds were found. The one change was when they were five-year-olds, they were not able to recognize conflict resolutions, and one year later, they became to recognize the typical resolution was to apologize. The other change was when they were five-year-olds, they recognized some conflict resolutions, and one year later they became to recognize the autonomous resolution which is to conciliate the conflicts from the third person s point of view. In addition to these major changes, there appears to be some minor changes. It is suggested that there is diversity in developmental changes of preschoolers views about conflict resolutions with their peers. 112
