The author reviews the statistics on housing affordability and analyzes the situation in the United States, Canada, UK, Australia and New Zealand. The ratio of housing cost to household income is considered as an important statistical indicator. The author finds that many owners and renters suffer from the increased burden of housing costs and a decreased ability to purchase homes. Therefore, this paper indicates that the state of housing affordability has been getting worse worldwide.
