1 アメリカ言語文化講座 後期 科目名 : アメリカ文学 文化論 Ib 副題 : アメリカ文学史概観 (2) 概要 :Participants in this class will learn the history of American literature from the Civil War period to the early 20th century by reading, analyzing and writing about some of the literary texts produced in these periods. 担当教員 : 長畑明利 開講時限 : 後期火曜 3 限 目的 ねらい : この授業の目的 ねらいは主として次の3 点である 1. 南北戦争期から 20 世紀初頭に至るアメリカ文学の主要作家とその作品についての理解を深める 2. その過程で 自分なりの ( 学術的な ) 問いを見いだす また 自分が得た問いをより大きな知的文脈に置いて吟味する 3. 文学 文化の研究に必要なリサーチの方法について学ぶ また 1 次資料 学術論文の読解に資する高度な英文読解力を涵養し 学術論文執筆に必要となるライティングのスキルを身につける ( 特に 作品を正確に読む力をつけることを重視する ) 履修条件等 : 基礎的な英語読解力を有すること 学習に対する意欲 積極性を有することを履修の条件とする 前期同時限に開講される アメリカ文学 文化論 Ia と連続して受講することが望ましい 関連科目として 英語表現演習 IIIb 英語表現技術演習 b 英語学術論文演習 b を挙げておくが 英米文学 文化に関する他の授業も受講するとよい 講義内容 : 各回の授業は講義と学生の発表を中心とする 授業で扱う主たる作家 トピックは 奴隷体験記 ハリエット ビーチャー ストウ エミリー ディキンソン マーク トウェイン ヘンリー ジェイムズ ウィリアム ディーン ハウエルズ ヘンリー アダムズ フランク ノリス スティーヴン クレイン 地方色文学 セオドア ドライサー アプトン シンクレア ジャック ロンドン W E B デュボイスである 受講者は各回の授業で扱う作品もしくはその抜粋 ( 主要作品の冒頭または重要な場面 ) を精読した上で授業に出席し 抜粋部分の和訳およびコメントを披露する ( 批評が追加される場合もある ) 抜粋を配布するが 短編小説や詩の場合 大学院生は作品全体を読むことが求められる なお 教科書に記載されている時代背景 作家紹介は各自で読み進めること 学期末に筆記試験を実施する また 学期中に授業で扱う時代に書かれた長編作品についての英文レポートを課す 教科書 参考書等 :( 教科書 ) 学部 大学院共通の教科書として 亀井俊介 ア

Participants will learn the research methods to

3 reveal the factors behind the success and failure of word segmentation and recognition. 6 Each week, students will prepare oral or written responses to the assigned texts, films and / or readings. Students should read the texts / view the films carefully, look at relevant background materials and be ready to engage in critical and theoretical discussions of the issues at hand. There will be some short writing assignments designed to help students improve their academic writing skills, especially in regard to literary and film analysis essays. We will also look at critical sources with the aim of understanding text-types and genres of academic writing. Presentations, Writing Activities and Essay: 70% There will be one formal academic presentation focusing on a literary or film text along with one or two short presentations. Students will participate in a student conference at Chukyo University to be held in January (Details TBA).
