4 To change the active voice to passive voice: 能動態を受動態に変換するパターンは次のとおりです ACTIVE VOICE( 能動態 ) Subject( 主語 ) Verb( 動詞 ) Object( 目的語 ) The farmers その農作業者たちは harvested 収穫した the crops. 作物を Subject( 主語 ) The crops 作物は Auxilliary verb (to be verb) (be 助動詞 ) were ~ された PASSIVE VOICE( 受動態 ) Main verb (always in past participle form) ( 主動詞 : 常に過去分詞形 ) harvested 収穫する ( 過去分詞形 ) Complement( 補語 ) by the farmers. その農作業者たちによって The object in the active voice becomes the subject in passive voice, and the subject in active voice becomes a complement of the verb in the passive voice. A complement is a phrase that completes the meaning of the verb. In the sentence, by the farmers is a prepositional phrase that describes the verb phrase were harvested. Thus, the prepositional phrase function as an adverb complement. 能動態における目的語は受動態では主語となり 能動態における主語は受動態では動詞の補語となります 補語とは 動詞の意味を補完する語句のことです 上の例文において その農作業者たちによって は 収穫された という動詞句を描写する前置詞句です このように 前置詞句は副詞的補語として機能します Remember: Normally, the object in passive voice is introduced by the word by, but not all. 注意 : 通常 受動態における目的語は by によって導かれますが 例外もあります E.g.
